Many people enjoy drinking. Alcohol is present in almost every social event and in daily life, especially here in Spain. A cold beer at the beach or a glass of wine with the meal is a pleasant experience for a great number of people.

But for others drinking is the cause of immense suffering for them and their loved ones. If the way you drink is causing you trouble, AA may be able to help you.

Alcoholics Anonymous has been helping people with alcohol problems for the last 76 years, since two men in America, Bill Wilson and Dr Bob Smith met one day in 1935 in Akron, Ohio, and managed to stop drinking and stay stopped.

Over the following years, the fellowship of recovering alcoholics spread throughout the world and there are groups here on the Costa Blanca meeting regularly every day of the week from Torrevieja in the south to Denia in the north.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop, and regular open information meetings are held throughout the province to inform both members of the public and health professionals about the 12 step programme that has helped millions of alcoholics worldwide to achieve sobriety.
